Financial strain

Hi, mamas. I am in need of some good money-saving tips at the moment. For instance, what are some healthful dinners that use inexpensive ingredients? What are some good ways to save on everything from clothing and shoes to groceries and basic household items?
Basically, I need to be schooled on how to be really, really cheap.
:-)
Any and all advice is welcome.
Thanks!
-Maureen

Hi Maureen,

We're kinda pros on skimping- the entire first year of our lives together we saved every penny to pay for our wedding-
We basicly don't go out- that saves a lot of money- eating at home and using Blockbuster Online/Netflix saves a bundle right off the bat.
Add rice or pasta to every meal- rice and pasta are super cheap and brown rice, wild rice, and whole grain pasta are even good for you!
At Ralphs, we only buy what is on sale- if there is no sale sticker, don't buy it. Also, Trader Joes is about 20% cheaper than most grocery stores. Their meat is very affordable- but Ralphs' meat on sale is even better. Ralphs' produce on sale is fantastic.

Basicly- sales, doing it yourself, and not going out are how we save money... hope that helps

Hey Maureen!

-Brown bag lunch to work.
-Cut out the "latte factor" literally, like no more Starbucks!
-Food 4 Less is really cheap.
-Buy in bulk at Costco for everything that doesn't expire like toilet paper and stuff, but also foods that can be frozen are good.
-Turn off everything electronic that you don't use right away and turn off lights when you're not in that room.
-When cooking, make enough for another day and freeze some of it.
-Cut out as much entertainment as possible because it can get really expensive!
-Maybe barter with another mom for whatever you need, like baby girl clothes...
-Cut down on hair/nail salons. Do it yourself or have Seth help!
-Stick with the food pyramid, as carbs are a lot cheaper than proteins.

I hope some of these ideas are useful, although you probably already implement most of them in your daily life! Good luck and let me know if there are any other good tips!

Love always,
Heather
